Route 222 Congestion
Let’s find a sensible solution to the congestion that creates gridlock in Maidencreek Township. Since Route 222 is a State Highway a solution will require the assistance of many within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and our Federal Government. Maidencreek Township must become the lead advocate and catalyst behind the multi-governmental support needed to find a sensible solution to this unacceptable congestion. This quagmire has inconvenienced our residents, negatively impacted our quality of life and is largely responsible for limiting our Business Development in Maidencreek. Our Township must reach out to it’s neighboring municipalities, the Berks County Commissioners, our State Representatives, our State Senators, PenDot, as well as our U.S. Congressman and U.S State Senators and rally their support and assistance in finding a solution to our problem.
Commercial and Residential Development
Development in the township needs to be properly managed. Residential Development has out paced commercial development within our Township. There needs to be an updated growth strategy that will help restore balance to both types of development in our township. Commercial development helps to ease the property tax burden since it helps generate tax revenue while having a minimal impact on both township and school district resources and services. The right blend will help to ease the tax burden that we all face while providing new job opportunities and economic development in the township. Let’s keep our hard-earned dollars in our community. We need to foster better cooperation and coordination with the Fleetwood School District with regards to planning and development. An accommodating Board of Supervisors partnering with a receptive School Board will work hard to minimize its impact on each other as well as the burden to the taxpayer. I would like to build a relationship and open line of communication between the township and the school district since property taxes affect us all. For example, out of my left jean pocket I pay my Township and County taxes and out of my right jean pocket I pay my School district taxes, but the reality is both are paid out of the same pair of jeans. So therefore it would make sense to me that these two entities must figure out a way to work together to help minimize their effect on the taxpayer.
Parks, Recreations and Open Space
I support our parks and recreation areas, not only in Maidencreek, but also in Berks County as well as in the Commonwealth. There is nothing more rewarding than spending a day or two camping, hiking, biking, walking, swimming, fishing with family and friends enjoying the outdoor beauty of our natural resources. I believe our resourceful Parks and Recreation Board, working in conjunction with the county and state, can continue to provide the residents of Maidencreek with an enjoyable and worthwhile parks and recreation area with minimal impact to the taxpayer.
I would like to see a county park, similar to the Heritage Center, located in or around Maidencreek. I would like to see a working farm be saved and become part of the Berks County Parks system, where the homestead is preserved and the family farm is opened to the public to gain and appreciate life on the farm. A small barnyard of farm animals could be maintained for the children to see.
I would like to see the fee in lieu of open space increased to the maximum dollar amount allowed by law. That will encourage developers to bring forth plans that are either compatible with our Parks and Recreations comprehensive plan or provide the Parks and Recs the necessary revenue to achieve their comprehensive plan.
Foregone Conclusion
Good Government starts with you, the informed Voter. Informed voters need to have the necessary information available to make the best decision regarding their choice for their elected officials. Our elected officials must be good politicians. The dictionary defines politician as: One who is skilled or experienced in the science or administration of government. In addition, I believe that “Good politicians” are the ones who not only “Get it”, but they “Get it done”. They understand the challenges, and they realize that they must solve these challenges through their skills and action. They understand that it is their elected duty and ultimate responsibility to find a resolution to every issue that is brought before them without passing the buck or pointing the finger at some other agency. Let’s Put the “People’s concerns” back into our Local Government.
I hope that my website has been a valuable tool and has provided you with enough information to make the best decision on November 6th. Remember good government starts with you. Thank you for your consideration and vote Joe Rudderow for Township Supervisor. |
